Persisting aggregates of monitoring data in a warehouse can be a useful means of distributing summary information around an organisation. Azure Data Factory can be used to extract data from AppInsights on a schedule.
You can use a single linked service for every query to App Insights. All it does is define the base URL for your application. You can define a single dataset that can be used across every query. This is where you define the query and the map the result set into a flattened JSON file. You can specify both the query and timespan using the following format:. Note that the query field must be a single line without any line breaks, which can be cumbersome for longer queries. The timespan field can accept the following combination of ISO dates and timespans:.
This is straightforward to set up — you just need to create a connection to your ADLS instance and a data set that points to the file you want to write. Each App Insight query will return data in a hierarchical format. This is tricky to work with as the results are represented by a nested array as shown below:. You set this up in the advanced mapping editor as shown below:. When you switch the advanced editor on you get more direct control over the way that fields are mapped.
This should be all you need to automate queries from App Insights. You may find it easiest to drop the query results into a data lake in the first instance without doing anything to transform the data. You can use downstream processes to aggregate it and put it into a format that is easier to query, such as a SQL database. Ben Morris Software architecture. You can copy data from a REST source to any supported sink data store.
For a list of data stores that Copy Activity supports as sources and sinks, see Supported data stores and formats. You can use tools like Postman or a web browser to validate. If your data store is configured in one of the following ways, you need to set up a Self-hosted Integration Runtime in order to connect to this data store:. You can use one of the following tools or SDKs to use the copy activity with a pipeline.
Select a link for step-by-step instructions:. The following sections provide details about properties you can use to define Data Factory entities that are specific to the REST connector.
Set the authenticationType property to Basic. In addition to the generic properties that are described in the preceding section, specify the following properties:. Set the authenticationType property to AadServicePrincipal. Set the authenticationType property to ManagedServiceIdentity.
For a full list of sections and properties that are available for defining datasets, see Datasets and linked services. If you were setting requestMethodadditionalHeadersrequestBody and paginationRules in dataset, it is still supported as-is, while you are suggested to use the new model in activity source going forward. For a full list of sections and properties that are available for defining activities, see Pipelines.
Normally, REST API limits its response payload size of a single request under a reasonable number; while to return large amount of data, it splits the result into multiple pages and requires callers to send consecutive requests to get next page of the result.
Usually, the request for one page is dynamic and composed by the information returned from the response of previous page.
Pagination rules are defined as a dictionary in dataset which contains one or more case-sensitive key-value pairs. The configuration will be used to generate the request starting from the second page. The corresponding REST copy activity source configuration especially the paginationRules is as follows:. Create a new connection for Source Connection. Create a new connection for Destination Connection. Select Use this template. You would see the pipeline created as shown in the following example:.
Select Web activity. You can pass datasets and linked services to be consumed and accessed by the activity. Web Activity can call only publicly exposed URLs. The activity will timeout at 1 minute with an error if it does not receive a response from the endpoint.
Specify the resource uri for which the access token will be requested using the managed identity for the data factory. For more information about how managed identities works see the managed identities for Azure resources overview page. If your data factory is configured with a git repository, you must store your credentials in Azure Key Vault to use basic or client certificate authentication.
Azure Data Factory doesn't store passwords in git. You can pass linked services and datasets as part of the payload. Here is the schema for the payload:.
In this example, the web activity in the pipeline calls a REST end point. You may also leave feedback directly on GitHub. Skip to main content. Exit focus mode. Learn at your own pace. You create linked services in a data factory to link your data stores and compute services to the data factory. In this quickstart, you only need create one Azure Storage linked service as both copy source and sink store, named "AzureStorageLinkedService" in the sample.
Run the following commands to create a linked service named AzureStorageLinkedService :. You define a dataset that represents the data to copy from a source to a sink. In this example, you create two datasets: InputDataset and OutputDataset. They refer to the Azure Storage linked service that you created in the previous section. The input dataset represents the source data in the input folder.REST API Authentication - Azure Data Factory vs Azure Logic Apps
In the input dataset definition, you specify the blob container adftutorialthe folder inputand the file emp. The output dataset represents the data that's copied to the destination. In the output dataset definition, you specify the blob container adftutorialthe folder outputand the file to which the data is copied. In this example, this pipeline contains one activity and takes two parameters - input blob path and output blob path.
Parameterizing a REST API Linked Service in Data Factory
The copy activity refers to the same blob dataset created in the previous step as input and output. When the dataset is used as an input dataset, input path is specified. And, when the dataset is used as an output dataset, the output path is specified. In this step, you set values of inputPath and outputPath parameters specified in pipeline with the actual values of source and sink blob paths, and trigger a pipeline run.
Replace value of inputPath and outputPath with your source and sink blob path to copy data from and to before saving the file.
Run the following script to continuously check the pipeline run status until it finishes copying the data. Use Azure Storage explorer to check the file is copied to "outputPath" from "inputPath" as you specified when creating a pipeline run.GitHub is home to over 40 million developers working together to host and review code, manage projects, and build software together.
If you are using the current version of the Data Factory service, see copy activity tutorial. In this tutorial, you create a pipeline with one activity in it: Copy Activity. The copy activity copies data from a supported data store to a supported sink data store.Lessenziale è barocco: oltre 200 appuntamenti in tutto il piemonte
For a list of data stores supported as sources and sinks, see supported data stores. The activity is powered by a globally available service that can copy data between various data stores in a secure, reliable, and scalable way.
A pipeline can have more than one activity. And, you can chain two activities run one activity after another by setting the output dataset of one activity as the input dataset of the other activity.
For more information, see multiple activities in a pipeline. The data pipeline in this tutorial copies data from a source data store to a destination data store. Replace the value of the start property with the current day and end value with the next day. You can specify only the date part and skip the time part of the date time. For example, "", which is equivalent to "TZ". Both start and end datetimes must be in ISO format. For example: TZ. The end time is optional, but we use it in this tutorial. To run the pipeline indefinitely, specify as the value for the end property.
For descriptions of JSON properties in a pipeline definition, see create pipelines article. We can now pass dynamic values to linked services at run time in Data Factory. This enables us to do things like connecting to different databases on the same server using one linked service.
Others require that you modify the JSON to achieve your goal. In order to pass dynamic values to a linked service, we need to parameterize the linked service, the dataset, and the activity.
I have a pipeline where I log the pipeline start to a database with a stored procedure, lookup a username in Key Vault, copy data from a REST API to data lake storage, and log the end of the pipeline with a stored procedure.
My username and password are stored in separate secrets in Key Vault, so I had to do a lookup with a web activity to get the username. The password is retrieved using Key Vault inside the linked service.
I have parameterized my linked service that points to the source of the data I am copying. The JSON for my linked service is below.
You can see that I need to reference the parameter as the value for the appropriate property and also define the parameter at the bottom. On the Connection tab of the dataset, I set the value as shown below.
We can see that Data Factory recognizes that I have 3 parameters on the linked service being used. The relativeURL is only used in the dataset and is not used in the linked service. The value of each of these properties must match the parameter name on the Parameters tab of the dataset. In my copy activity, I can see my 4 dataset parameters on the Source tab. There, I can write expressions to provide the values that should be passed through to the dataset, 3 of which are passed through to the linked service.
In my case, this is a child pipeline that is called from a parent pipeline that passes in some values through pipeline parameters which are used in the expressions in the copy activity source.
